Caroline \”Kay\” Pratt, age 82 and a resident of St. Johns, Michigan, passed peacefully in the care of her family and hospice on July 17, 2024 after battling cancers for several years. Kay was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on February 1, 1942, the daughter of Ed and Iva (McCall) Minter. On June 13, 1959 she married Robert E. Pratt with whom she enjoyed over fifty-seven years of marriage before his passing in 2016. They made their home in California, where she made some of the first solid-state parts for NASA, in Missouri, where she was one of the first women to run a newspaper press, and later moved to St. Johns, Michigan where Kay enjoyed her work as a housekeeper at Hazel Findlay Nursing Center for over twenty-five years. She was a devoted member of Pilgrim Global Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Deb (Chuck) Roberts; her sons, Bob (Mary) Pratt Jr. and Steve (Kim) Pratt; grandchildren, Angie (Tom) Hol, Amber (Jim) Buddenborg, Erin Csapos, Mallory Pratt, Katie Pratt, Doug Pratt (Shannon), and Alex (Sandy) Roberts; great grandchildren, Austin, Lucas, Cora, Kali, Logan, Mason, Eli, Nova, Alana, Raelynn, Makiya, and Jaxton; half-brother, Charles (Jayne) Neu, and many extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard \”Ricky\” Pratt.Kay had a distinct protocol when it came to venturing out; everything from her earrings to her purse, to her clothes, which had to match perfectly. Her splendid collection of earrings, each pair as unique as the next, was known far and wide. She believed that being well-dressed was a form of good manners, and she exhibited this belief in her everyday life. Kays welcoming and inviting nature was appreciated by all who had the pleasure of meeting her, and she had a knack for running into familiar faces wherever she went.Apart from her love for fashion and potato chips with the lighthouse on the bag, Kay was also passionate about family photos and scrapbooking. She created a photo album for every year, a testament to her love for her family and her talent for preserving memories. Her home was always immaculately kept, and her love for coffee was only surpassed by the love she had for her family and everyone who had the good fortune to know her.
