Kathryn Kay Jorgenson Finnegan, age 76, of Algona, passed away Wednesday February 11, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City. Kathryn Kay Hardgrove, the daughter of John and Ada (Schwietert) Hardgrove, was born on October 26, 1938 in Burt, Iowa. She graduated from Algona High School in 1956. On December 28, 1964 Kay was united in marriage with Donald D. Jorgenson in Algona. On September 12, 2009, Kay was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Finnegan at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. She had worked for the County Treasurers Office at the Kossuth County Court House in Algona and as a bookkeeper for Sister Sarah’s. She also owned the store Uniquely Yours from 1980 to 1985. She was a member of the Algona Senior Center and the First United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School and belonged to the United Methodist Women. Kay organized many Banquets and Weddings at the Moose Lodge in Algona. She enjoyed making dolls, playing the organ and piano at Charlie’s Supper Club, giving piano and organ lessons, going to garage sales and putting together puzzles. Her family was her pride and joy. Left to cherish Kay’s memory is her husband of five years, Charles of Algona; three sons, Robert Jorgenson of Des Moines, Randy (Julie) Jorgenson of Spencer and Jeffery (Amy) Jorgenson of Apple Valley, MN; a daughter, Kristen Jorgenson-Bauer of Milwaukee, WI; a step-daughter, Mary (Russ) Lehr of Ashley, ND; two step-sons, Jeff (Angelia) Finnegan of Dallas, TX and Pat (Gwen) Finnegan of Baraboo, WI; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis (Dick) Tappe of Sioux Falls, SD; and a brother, Jack (Deb) Hardgrove of Algona. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Donald Jorgenson in 1990, Bob Meine and Mike Smith; daughter, Kathy in 1978; two sisters, Barbara Schattschneider and Peggy Hilbert; and an infant brother Ronnie.
