Kattie Mae Thomas Baldwin, 93, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2016 at her residence in Huguley, AL.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Hoyt T. Baldwin. She was also preceded by her youngest son, Jerry Baldwin; two great-grandchildren, Michaela Lyke and Tyler Moore; one sister, Darie Hodges; three brothers: Arthur, Bobby, and Billy Thomas; and her parents, James Lester and Ada (Rochester) Thomas.
Kattie was born June 9, 1923 in Clay County, AL. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend.
Kattie was a resident of the Valley, AL area for more than 70 years. She retired from West Point Pepperell at the Shawmut Mill, where she worked for more than 35 years.
She loved the Lord and was a member of the Lanett Church of God.
Kattie spent many of her retirement years lovingly caring for her husband, Hoyt, after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
She will lovingly be remembered for her good-natured sense of humor, her homemade biscuits and multi-layered cakes, and her capacity for tolerating the hottest peppers possible.
Kattie is survived by her son Lester Baldwin (Edna) and her only daughter, Margie Williams (James);
12 grandchildren: Debbie Wood (Joey), Rhonda Gordon (Eddie), Penny Eargle (Scott), Nicole Lyke (Gary), Sammy Moore (Angela), Nancy Moore, John Moore (Lorena), Michael Williams (Heylem), Melinda Jackson (Les), Julie Stewart (Kirk), Cathey Lyda (Fred), and Amy Cook (David).
13 great-grandchildren: Justin and Chelsea Wood, Alaina and Trenton Eargle, Robert Moore, Daniel and Jacob Moore, Chloe Lyda, Cade Cook, Megan and Abby Jackson, and Eliana and Daniella Williams. She is also survived by seven sisters: Frances Bowles, Mary Lou Nichols, Ada Smith, Hazel Franklin, Ruth Teague, Grace Scott, and Peggy Anglin.
