Katie Mae Baker was born in Brooks County, Georgia, on May 1, 1927, to the late Marie Sloan Golden and the late Willie D. Mitchell. She relocated to Orlando in 1947. She was previously married to the late Johnnie C. McCarthy, and from this union five beautiful children were born. She later married the late Oliver T. Baker in October 1968.
In 1951, at a revival, Katie accepted the call of the Lord and became a member of Mt.
During her lifetime, Katie worked for Dr. Phillips Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home, now known as Guardian Care, as an Aide and Physical Therapist for over 30 years. In addition to her full-time employment, she worked part-time as a Housekeeper for the Mahre and Builders Families for several years.
On August 24, 2021, the Lord called her to rest until Jesus returns to take her to her Heavenly Home. She was preceded in death by 12 siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Johnnie Jr. (Rosa) McCarthy, Willie Pearl Calhoun, Ruth (Frank) Murphy all of Orlando, Florida, James (Missy) McCarthy of Kissimmee, Florida; and Darius (Jacquelyn) McCarthy of Walterboro, South Carolina. Stepchildren: Mary Williams and Curtis Baker both of Orlando, Florida. Sisters: Ernestine Johnson of Quitman, Georgia, and Ruthie (Larry) Hadley of Columbus, Georgia, Shirley Mitchell, of Ft Lauderdale, Florida; Caroline Gunns, Rosa Taylor and Betty Shuemake all of Long Beach, California. Brothers: William Mitchell, Samuel Mitchell both of Long Beach, California, and Josh Mitchell of Clermont, Florida. 26 Grandchildren, 64 Great-Grandchildren, and 26 Great-Great-Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
