Kathleen Evelyn George was born November 27, 1936, in Pomeroy, IA. She graduated 8th grade from Immanuel Lutheran School, Pomeroy, and Pomeroy High School in the class of 1954.
Katie worked as a bank teller at the State Bank in Fort Dodge for 25 years. She then worked for 20 years at First Federal Savings and Loan in Manson. She was a member of the Manson Watanye chapter since 1986.
Katie is survived by her husband of almost 61 years, Donald; children, Jay Birkey of Fort Dodge; Mitch (Amy) Birkey of Sheboygan, WI; 2 grandchildren, Mackenzie Birkey of Bowling Green, KY and Holland Birkey of Sheboygan, WI; siblings, Marilyn (Ken) Dayton of Pocahontas; Gordon (Tangela) George of Maxwell, IA; brother-in-law, Marvin (Linda) Birkey of LaVista, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Myrtle (Cassen) George; sons, Russell Dean Birkey and David Lee Birkey; brothers Ken George, Duane George, Richard George; sisters Carolyn Vial and Yvonne Holmes; in-laws, Simon and Erma Birkey, Phyllis George, Dixie George, Harold Vial, Butch Holmes, Earl and Marlys Birkey, Jerry Birkey; nephews Paul Dayton and Clay Birkey; niece Connie Birkey.
