On December 11, 1920, Katie Bell was born to the late Corine and Rodger Collins in Choctaw County (Riderwood), Alabama. She was the eldest of 12 siblings; 10 siblings preceded her in death. One sister remains, Ida Lee Sasser (Chester).
Katie confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Wahalak Missionary Baptist Church of Butler, Alabama. Katie Bell loved her church, and remained faithful in her service; whether making speeches, singing on the choir, or serving as president of Home Mission, until her health succumbed her. She loved God, family, church and the community. Her passion was giving, (mostly advice). She was loved by many.
In 1941, Katie Bell married the late Mr. Almon Nickerson. During this marriage, 13 children were born. She was preceded in death by three children, Almon Jr., Charles and Beloved; four grandchildren, Alfrederick, Derrick, Joshua and Jessie.
She leaves to cherish her memory, ten loving children: Surether Marie Hayes of Detroit, Michigan; Edith Larkin of Yantley, Alabama; Laurine (Eddie) Nicholson of Butler, Alabama; Francis Jean O’Field of Lisman, Alabama; Faye (Thomas) White of Detroit, Michigan; Joel (Macie) Nicholson of Hinesville, Georgia; Katie Murl Nicholson of Lisman, Alabama; Mamie (Bradley) Webb of Jackson, Alabama; Espanolia (Michael) Rowe of Montgomery, Alabama; Gerald Nicholson of Lisman, Alabama; forty (40) grandchildren, ninety-eight (98) great-grandchildren, thirty-two (32) great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
