On June 30, 2007, Kathryn Ward “Kitty” Payne passed away at her home after suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Kathryn Elizabeth Ward, the daughter of John and Alice Ward, was born in the Forest Park section of Baltimore in 1922. She resided there until her marriage to Louis L. “Lee” Payne in 1944. Kitty and Lee moved to North Linthicum in 1948, where they resided for 58 years until moving into an assisted living facility in Severna Park in 2006. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on April 22, 2007.
Kitty spent more than 30 years as a teacher in Anne Arundel County, first at Overlook Elementary and then at Hilltop Elementary where she thoroughly enjoyed working with the young people.
After retiring in 1983, Kitty and Lee enjoyed their memberships in several Fraternal and Sorority groups. She was a meber of the Ferndale Roadrunners, and traveled to many states and she was an original member of the Marley Milers. Of all, Kitty was most proud of her Presidency of the Baltimore Assembly of the Social Order of the Beauceant. She is survivied by her husband, Lee; their daughters, Kathryn “Kathy” Braman and Elizabeth “Libby” Clause and their husbands Darrell and Carl; granddaughters Michele Banz, Kimberly Green, and Christine Banz and grandson Scott Clause; great-granddaughter Katie Suchi; brother Edward Ward and her Boston Terrier, Zippy.
