Kathryn Johnson, age 74, passed into eternal life on March 15, 2016. She was born to William and Elizabeth Voorhees, graduated from St. Edwards High School in Dallas, and later graduated from SMU with a degree in Business.
She began work with DeGolyer and MacNaughton, a petroleum consulting company where she compiled statistics on the North Slope oil fields. With the birth of her first child, she became a devoted mother to her children.
Four years later, the family moved to Richardson and joined St. Paul Catholic Church and School. Kathryn was active in the St. Paul Women’s Guild and Catholic Daughters where she held some officer positions and was named Woman of the Year for the Women’s Guild in 2015.
After several thousand hours of training through the Dean Learning Center, she became an academic language therapist and tutored students one-on-one for over 30 years and developed a long lasting bond with many students who still kept in contact with her over the years.
With her sewing skills, she made costumes and dresses for the children and grandchildren. She was talented and creative in decorating themed custom cakes for every birthday or holiday. She always had a unique and inspiring gift for the children and grandchildren.
Kathryn had a sweet gentle nature, a bright smile, was loved by all and accepted everyone as they were.
Survived by husband Jack; son Mark; daughter Michelle and son-in-law David Guadiano; son Michael and daughter-in-law Shelly; six grandchildren; sister Betty Sharber; sister Pat Moffitt and brother-in-law Don; sister Mickie White; and numerous nephews and nieces.
