Kathryn Marie Ulrich, 87 of Mallard died Thursday, December 2, at her home in Mallard. Kathryn Marie McGrauth, the daughter of William and Julia (Lee) McGrauth was born May 23, 1923, in Cylinder, Iowa. She received her education in Emmetsburg, graduating from the Emmetsburg High School in 1940. On October 28, 1940, she was united in marriage with Frank Ulrich at the Methodist parsonage in Emmetsburg. Kathryn and Frank lived and farmed their entire lives in the Mallard area.

Survivors include her husband Frank, sons and daughters: Judy (Cliff) Barber of Omaha NE, Ruth Halder of Omaha, NE, Bob (Karen) Ulrich of Armstrong, IA, Betty (Robert) Barber of Algona, IA, Janet (Ed) Leuer of Camp Verde, AZ, Bill Ulrich, of Mallard, IA, Mary (Brent) Hilton of Cylinder, IA, Nancy Busse and special friend Dick of Clinton, IA, Sandy Henderson and special friend Paul of Graettinger, IA, David Ulrich of Mallard, IA, Deb (Jeff) Falkena of Albert City, IA, and Daryl (Tory) Ulrich of West Bend, IA, 28 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, brother William “Junior” (Jan) McGrauth of Emmetsburg, IA and sister Joann (Gordon) Gjere of St. Paul, Minn. Kathryn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mallard. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, and playing cards and was preceded in death by her son Jim, grandson Adam, and son-in-law Jack Halder.
