Kathryn L. Helms, 85, died Thursday April 10th, 2007 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.Kathryn was born April 20, 1922 in Sterling, Illinois to Elsa & Siebelt Janssen.
She married Norman Helms on April 2, 1941 at the home of her parents near Polo, Ill.Kate and Norm farmed together near Sterling & Polo and later purchased a farm south of Freeport about 1955.Kate attended rural schools and graduated from Sterling High School in 1939.
She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many of her kids clothes while they were growing up. She was a 4-H club leader and belonged to the Florence Home Extension unit for many years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Freeport. Kate enjoyed going to Provena Day Care Center and spending time with many new friends she made there.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Helms of Freeport, Beth (Marvin) Bausman of Beloit, Wis. and Carol (Paul) Biesemeier of Austin, Texas. Also 10 grandchildren, Daryl (Pennie) Groezinger of Stockton, Amy (Doug) Lieb & DeAnne (Blake)Voss of Pearl City, Dawson (Meigan) Bausman of Winona, Minn., Nyree Bausman (Rick Walsh) of Masawa, Japan, Jennifer Fredericks of College Station Texas, Erik Biesemeier of Austin, Texas, Suzanne Boglou of Limassol, Cyprus and Aaron & Jeremy Helms of Wasilla, Alaska. Also 9 great-grandchildren, sister Alta Mertz and brother Bill Janssen.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband in 1984, , daughter Joyce Groezinger in 1995 and son Gale Helms in 2006. Also brothers Harold and Mervin Janssen.
