Kathryn Anne Allen Dixson, 88, passed away Saturday January 23, 2010 at the home of one of her daughters in West Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born May 16, 1921 to Earl and Janie Allen on a farm NW edge of Lucas, Iowa.
She graduated from Lucas High School and attended and graduated from Chariton Junior College, Drake University where she received her teaching certificate.
On August 6, 1941 she married Charles William Dixson and traveled the Midwest states for several years where she began her teaching career until they settled on a farm east of Lucas in 1960, where they raised three children, Calvin, Carmen and Nancy.
She taught school at the Chariton Comm. Schools where she taught at Williamson and Lucas elementary.
After retiring, Kathryn was active in her community and organized the John L. Lewis Commission and the building of the John L. Lewis Museum where she volunteered and held numerous positions in which assisted with the annual John L. Lewis Labor Day celebration.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, past Matron of OES, NSDAR Daughters of the American Revolution, and Red Hat Ladies. Lucas County Genealogy Society, past member of the Lucas City Council.
She was Baptized and confirmed in Lucas Methodist E.
Prior to her stroke in 2005 she was the local historian not only for community history /information but also the family resource.
She was the kind of teacher that former students would cross the street just to say “Hi” and tell her that she was their favorite teacher and she remembered everyone of them.
Among her many hobbies besides her great love of her children, grandchild and great grandchildren, were quilt making, Embroidery, reading, traveling with Dad after retirement.
She is survived by two daughters, Carmen Stone of West Des Moines, Nancy (Alan) Foote of Indianola, daughter-in-law Teresa Dixson of Lucas.
One granddaughter Karla (Don) Frisby, Michael (Leanne) Dixson, Steven (Carma) Dixson, Jay, Ben, and Alex Foote. Three great-granddaughters, Alexis & Mercedes Frisby, Shailey Dixson, three great-grandsons, Gavin & Degan Dixson, Chase Dixson.
One brother, Willard Allen, four sister’s-in-law.
Betsy Hill, Helen Allen, Margaret Allen and Hurmoline Dixson and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband Charles, son Calvin and great-grandson Chance, her parents, siblings Marney, Gerald, Patricia Peterson and two infant sisters Carolyn and Shirley.
