Kathleen Margaret Smith passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 27. After a courageous three year battle with cancer, Kathleen went home surrounded by loved ones.
We all called her Taffy. With her brazen wit, huge heart and the most open arms, Taffy was loved by all who had the opportunity to join her tribe. Her vast understanding of what people needed, a desire to see her people be happy, and an open invitation to her porch made the Smith home a home to all.
Born December 18, 1948 in Flushing Queens, Taffy was the seventh child of eight. She loved swimming, dancing, singing and running close with her siblings. Taffy married the love of her life on Valentine ‘s Day in 1971. Charlie Smith and Taffy dedicated their days to providing their three children with the very best. Days were filled with every sort of practice, Sundays of bowling and family dinners and summers camping at Otter lake. Taffy cheered the loudest, made the best meatballs and made sure every neighborhood kid had a cheering section and a full plate.
Charlie and Taffy moved their family to Florida to flourish where Taffy continued to care for all who walked through her doors.
Taffy is preceded in death by her husband Charlie Smith, mother Catherine Moss, father Joseph Parks, and brothers Joseph and Edward Parks. She is survived by her son Thomas Smith (Janelle Toohey-Smith), two daughters Dawnmarie Smith and Jennifer Smith Moore (Daniel Moore), grandson William Linder (Mackenzie Linder), Brothers James, John and Ronald Parks and sisters Ann Marie Praino and Margery Kolman.
Making mention of affiliations and jobs would be unnecessary as Taffy’s greatest life’s work was her love for her family and her sweetheart.
