Kathleen “Kathy” Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away May 21, 2021, at the age of 69, after a three-year battle with cancer. She was born Kathleen Elaine Landwehr to Burton and Clara (Hall) Landwehr on May 2, 1952, in Fulton, Missouri.

Kathy attended Hoover High School in Des Moines and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1975. Growing up, she played the violin and the guitar and enjoyed crafts and games with her family.

She spent part of her career in Washington, D.C., where she worked for the International Monetary Fund. She also was employed by the Des Moines Post Office and as a medical transcriptionist for Broadlawns Medical Center and the Veterans Central Iowa Health Care System.

Kathy married Daniel Anderson on April 27, 2002, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. Together, they enjoyed traveling to different parts of the country—from Hawaii to Florida—visiting family and exploring historic sites.

Kathy and Dan renewed their vows and sang their wedding song each year on their anniversary, and Dan kept his promise to prepare a candlelight dinner for her every week. For the last week of her life, Kathy was cared for at home, surrounded by a collection of angels she and Dan had gathered over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burton in 1989 and Clara in 2005. She is survived by three brothers, Michael (Sue) Landwehr of Waukee, Robert (Joy) Landwehr of Renton, Washington, and James (Marna) Landwehr of Urbandale; and by two sisters, Marjorie (Don) LePorte of Ankeny and Debra (Bob) Engle of Winterset. Kathy’s life was enriched by her eight nephews and nieces, twelve great nephews and nieces, four stepchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
