Kathleen J. Holman, 79, of 258 Duffield Ave., Galesburg, died at 8:47 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.
Kathleen was on May 21, 1928 in Galesburg, the daughter of Claude C. and Hazel E. Reed Kirkman. She married Donald L. Holman on April 23, 1949 in Galesburg. He died on May 3, 1998. Surviving Kathleen are 3 sons, Jeffrey Lee Holman of Muldrow, OK, Dennis (Stefanie Brandes) Holman of Davenport, IA, and Paul G. (Wendy Dixon) Holman of Abingdon; 2 daughters, Pamela K. Taylor and Denise M. (Mike) Beall both of Galesburg; a sister, Shirley E. Thompson of Galesburg; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Kathleen graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1945. She first worked at Midwest Photo for 9 years, she then worked as an Assistant Manager at Arlens for 9 years, then was Assistant Manager at O.T. Johnson’s for 3 years, last working at Sears as an office manager, retiring in 1986. During her career she also worked as the nursery photographer for 17 years at St. Mary’s Hospital and Cottage Hospital.
She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of R.E.A.C.T. (Radio Emergency Assistance Citizens Team). Kathleen and her husband were avid Harley Davidson riders and were founding members of the Galesburg Motorcycle Club. She was a volunteer at the Galesburg Rescue Mission for 35 years, retiring in 2007. The family is eternally grateful to their sister Denise, who was Kathleen’s caretaker for the past 5 years.
