Kathleen Helton Baker, 90, of 351 Pine Street, Fieldale, VA died Monday, April 19, 2010 at Stanleytown Health Care Center, Bassett, VA. She was born on March 23, 1920 in Russell County, VA to the late Elijah H. Helton and Martha Comer Helton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard E. Baker; daughter, Frances Anita B. Gulledge; sisters, Russell H. Artrip, Bonnie Merriman and Bessie Martin; brothers, Jake Helton, Roy Helton, William Helton and Paul Helton; three half-sisters and one half-brother. She graduated from Cleveland High School, Cleveland, VA in 1937. Mrs. Baker was a member of Fieldale Baptist Church, Fieldale, VA where she taught Sunday school and was the Sunshine Lady for Keenagers. She worked 45 years for Fieldcrest Mills, Fieldale, VA. Surviving are her daughter, Regina B. Jarrett of Spencer, VA; sons, L. Douglas Baker of Roanoke, VA, Jeffrey D. Baker and Patrick K. Baker both of Fieldale, VA; sister, Trula Helton Ensley of Martinsville, VA; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
