Kathleen Agnes Burns on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Beloved mother of Patricia L. Moose and Sandra G. Turner; grandmother of Randy M. Goldenberg and Jerry Leadbetter; great grandmother of Kayla Leadbetter, Samantha Goldenberg and Shawn Alexander Leadbetter; sister of Pauline B. Arena.
Kathleen was employed with the federal government as a secretary for many years. She worked for several agencies throughout her career. At the Department of Health Education and Welfare she became familiar with the latest innovations in health care. She later worked as an Assistant Writer to an editor for a magazine publication where she became informed about the plight of the working farm immigrants in the U.S. and Mexico, initiatives of the World Health Organization, and many pressing environmental issues of the day. She was a passionate believer in helping the underprivileged and this publication which she was very proud of helped her to get the word out for many worthy causes.
Later in life she and a friend bought an older 40 foot boat (Ka-Jo). They spent many weekends exploring the Chesapeake bay, entertaining friends and family, crabbing, and scraping barnacles off the boat. The Ka-Jo was her joy.
As a single parent, she afforded her two daughters Sandy and Trish a Catholic education at Our Lady of Queen of Peace in South East Washington, D.C. Her daughter Sandy gave her two cherished grandsons, Randy Goldenberg and Jerry Michael Leadbetter. She has three great grandchildren as well.
She was such a “trooper” in adapting to all of her life challenges. Never kicked and screamed just practiced acceptance in the things she couldn’t change. She was a great role model and will be ever so missed…
