Katherine (Kay) Larocco, nee McCloskey, passed into life eternal on October 10th after a short illness at the age of 94. Kay, the second oldest of the seven daughters of Lawrence and Lillian McCloskey, was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1921 and attended St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church and school. She became a family breadwinner at the age of 16, not long after graduation from business school at RCA in Manhattan, where she met her future husband, John.
After his service to his country during World War II, the couple was married at St. Bridget’s and she later gave birth to and raised four sons while residing in Brooklyn, NY and, from 1958, in Willingboro, NJ. John and Kay were founding members of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Willingboro, where Kay was active in the prayer group and Women of Joy. Kay and John enjoyed their retirement years in Florence Township since 1995, from whence they travelled, swam (she loved the ocean) and spent time with their children and grandchildren. Kay soldiered on after the loss of John, the love of her life, in 2005.
She is survived by her sons Daniel of Charlottesville, VA, Michael of Fair Lawn NJ, John, also of Florence Twp, and Thomas of Sewell, NJ, their spouses, along with eleven grandchildren and their spouses, two great-grandchildren, and a wealth of nieces, nephews and friends.
