Katherine “Kate” Mitchell passed away on April 18 at the age of 91. She had suffered the effects of Dementia and congestive heart failure over the past several years. Kate was born January 3, 1924 in Flint, Michigan and was the third daughter of immigrant parents from Greece. Katherine’s two older sisters Mabel and Lula preceded her passing. Kate was married to the love of her life Louis A. “Lou” Mitchell in 1958 and spent 44 years together. Together they had one son, Christopher “Chris” and a Daughter-in-law Carolyn “Red” Mitchell who recently moved from Tucson to Austin, TX. Kate was a secretary for General Motors in the early 1950s and Lou was an executive for General Motors until his retirement. When they got married, they lived in Birmingham, Michigan and then retired and moved to Tucson in 1974 and then on to Scottsdale in 1984. Kate returned to Tucson in 2011 to be near Chris and Red. Some of Kate’s memories include seeing Frank Sinatra and Liz Taylor in Las Vegas, NV. She also had a chance encounter with Richard Nixon (before he was President) on a beach in Florida and has photo of him as a keepsake. She enjoyed traveling and going to Casinos. She was a good cook and enjoyed entertaining. Kate was a social butterfly but a very private person as well. She belonged to the McCormick Ranch and Red Hats groups when she lived in Scottsdale.
