We mourn the death and will celebrate the life and legacy of Mrs. Katherine Garrett Ayers.On November 27, 1938 in Natchitoches, Louisiana a baby girl was born. Her Jack Garrett and Leazer Garrett named her Katherine Garrett. She was the third of eight children.Katherine Garrett accepted Christ at a very early age under the leadership of Rev. Carter at Shiloh Baptist Church in Natchitoches Louisiana. She later was blessed with six beautiful children, Jimmy, Claudia, Betty, Brenda, Cermase and Henry . In 1986 she married James M. Ayers, and become a member of New Light Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Havey in Houston, Texas where she remained faithful until God called her home.Katherine Garrett Ayers was a woman of strength and she had a heart filled with love for God’s people. She never met stranger and always had open arms and listening ear words of wisdom for anyone who needed it. She was known for her love of cooking delicious meal and God blessed her with overflowing cupboards, pots of good food and lots of family and friends who always know that if they showed up at “Sisters” house they were sure to get some soul food. Katherine will truly be missed but the love she shared will live in our hearts always.On June 23 2013, God dispatched an angel to relieve Katherine of her earthly responsibilities. She is preceded in death by her father. Jack Garrett, her mother Leazer Garrett. Her eldest daughter Claudia Garrett, her brothers: LeRoy Garrett, J.D. Garrett, Johnny Garrett, and her sisters: Betty Garrett, Joyce Garrett, and Boonie Garrett. Her siblings are Willie Louise Stiller, Jacqueline Roman, Nettie Martin, Nellie Grace, Jack Garrett, Jr. step-mother Doris Garrett.
