Katherine Elizabeth Colson, a retired rural mail carrier and longtime 4-H youth leader, died December 21. She was 68.
Although the post office, first in Rayville and then Oak Ridge, was her job, her passion was raising and exhibiting dairy cattle. For three decades, Kathy mentored dozens of kids-and some adults-in the art and science of fitting, showing and grooming cows. She touched the lives of countless young people with incredible patience and endless perseverance; two generations of the youth in north Louisiana still called her “Aunt Kathy.”
She is preceded in death by beloved parents N.B. and Laura Colson and a brother, David Colson.
She is survived by two sons, Chris Silk and Benjamin Silk; precious granddaughter Sterling Silk; and a brother, Joey Colson. Mike Silk was the father of her children.
