Bowes, Katherine D. “Kae” (Dirrane) Bowes of Newton died on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at her home. She was 89 years old. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (O’Flaherty) Dirrane. Kae grew up in South Boston. She attended Nazareth College in Louisville Kentucky where she earned an associate’s degree. She later received a bachelor’s degree from Framingham State College. Mrs. Bowes was a resident of Newton for over 44 years. She volunteered with many organizations throughout the Newton community. She was the founder of the Newton Meals on Wheels program, a past President of the Newton Women’s Club, longtime active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and volunteer at the All Newton Music School. Kae assisted her late husband in writing history books. She also enjoyed reading and writing poetry. The beloved wife of the late John S. Bowes, she was the loving mother of Richard Bowes of New York City, Lee Bowes and her husband Peter Cove of Pelham, NY, Paulette Bowes and her husband Dennis Alves of Newton, David Bowes of Turin, Italy and the late Gerald Bowes. Sister of Margaret Harrington of Framingham and the late Thomas, John and Leo Dirrane and Eileen Kreinsen she is also survived by 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
