Katherine Konieczny, 98, passed away in Windham on August 25, 2018. Katherine was born on November 17, 1919 to Ukranian Parents Mychajlo and Tatiana Antoshko, near Peremysl, Poland. In 1941 there was great turmoil by invading German forces and like many young men and women in the area she was rounded up and transported to Germany to work as slave labor. During the course of her time there she met her husband Joe. In 1949 they immigrated to the USA and married in 1950, and they settled down in Willimantic to start their new life together. They enjoyed a good social life and the company of their wide circle of friends. Katherine was a good cook, known for her pierogis, a good dress maker, and a keen gardener. Katherine worked for many years at Electro Motive and five years at UCONN. With great reluctance she had to give up her job at UCONN to care for her husband whose health was declining. Joe died in 1996 and with his passing Katherine faced many challenges. Thankfully with supportive friends and her beloved pet cats she managed to overcome them. She leaves behind nieces and nephews scattered around in New Jersey, England, Poland, and Ukraine. She will always be remembered with love and respect. Her nieces Mary Wisniewski and Tina Antoshko would like to express their gratitude to St. Joseph’s Living Center in Windham for taking good care of Katherine in the last four months of her life.
