Katherine A. Alford, 92, longtime resident of LaGrange, GA, passed away March 5, 2012. Katherine was born November 24, 1919 in Grace, Mississippi, the daughter of John Julius and Annie Lucille Robinson Alford. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Benton Alford; brothers, John J. Alford Jr., Howard S. “Sonny” Alford and daughter, Diane Alford Marlow. Katherine moved to LaGrange, GA in 1951 from Crystal Springs, Mississippi. She worked for Callaway Mills before becoming secretary to the director at the Department of Family and Children services. She retired after 20 years as well as working 15 years at the Belk Department store. She has spent the last few years under the care of her daughter in Newnan, GA. Survivors include her daughter, Debra (Nelson) Gammans: grandchildren, Wendy Waddle, Christy (Mark) Pernat, Suzanna (Jason) Bell, Alexandra (Steven) Powers, Gabriella Gammans; one sister, Dorothy Ainsworth; one brother, William A. Young; seven great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
