Our Mother, Katherine Ann Simpson Blanchard, passed away peacefully in a Boise hospital at the age of 81, on July 27, 2020. She was born October 15, 1938 in Vancouver WA, the youngest of 5 children, to Hobert Simpson and Magdelena Kohns . She was fondly nicknamed ‘Toots’ by her family and was known to her many friends and coworkers as Kathy.
Kathy was raised and spent much of her early life in the Vancouver area and attended Evergreen High School. She had a fun loving spirit and loved to travel. She enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and board games with her family and friends. Kathy was the Yahtzee queen. She loved to go out for meals and a nice cocktail or glass of chardonnay. Mom loved to read and watch game shows. She loved animals, especially small dogs.
Mom made many friends throughout her life as she worked as a waitress, bartender, and motel manager. Her occupations offered her many opportunities to travel and seek new adventures, sometimes even relocating to a new town. Before retiring, she managed several motels along the Oregon Coast. Mom loved living at the beach. She chose to move to Idaho to be near family. She resided in an Ashley Manor care home for the past 2 years. We truly appreciate the kindness and care the staff provided our sweet Mama.
Kathy is survived by her daughters, Joy (Bill) Finley and Teri (Richard) Quintana; granddaughters, Molly (Joe) McDevitt, Kate (Darren) Russinger, and Lauren Carl; great-grandchildren, Emily, Trey, Taylor, Maddie, Laurilynn, and Jocelyn. Including several loving nieces and nephews.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ernie, Bert, and Albert, her sister Francis, nephews Bill and Grant.
Our family would especially like to give our thanks to the Doctors, Nurses, and staff members at St Luke’s Hospital downtown Boise, who provided such careful and compassionate care to our mother.
