Katharine Masten Thurber Tyson of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away Monday, August 15 following a long and brave battle with cancer. According to her wishes, Katharine’s body will be donated for scientific research.
She was born to Mary Priscilla Masten Thurber and Harry Raymond Thurber on December 1, 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Katharine attended Daniel Hand High School in Madison, Connecticut, and University of Arizona at Tuscon where she studied Theatre Arts. She later married Roy Davis Tyson, Jr. and they had two daughters, Priscilla Masten Tyson Bishop and Stephanie Lee Tyson.
Following a long career in the arts, Katharine worked the last 10 years in marketing and development at The Denver Center for the Performing Arts. She most recently handled corporate sponsorship for the Center and was highly regarded for her level of professionalism. She was active and interested in the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts, PHAMALy, Denver Center Alliance and the Latina Chamber of Commerce.
