Karon Jabbar Vaughters, age 44, of Norwich CT, died suddenly and went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 5, 2017. He was born on November 14, 1972 in Middletown, CT. He was the son to Gordon Vaughters and Velvet Stiller.
Karon was born in Middletown, CT and moved to Norwich in 1986. He attended The Norwich Free Academy where he excelled as a basketball star. He left an indelible mark on everyone who played with him. Karon was a phenomenal athlete that could “do it all”. From the hardwood of the Alumni Hall to the blacktop of the Rec. Karon was arguably the best ball player in Norwich for several years and was beloved by many.
Karon was pure energy and spirit. He was appropriately nicknamed “Judge” at a young age for he was your protector when you were weak and he ensured you learn to protect yourself. He was kind-hearted. We will remember his grand smile and the sound of his laugh that made you laugh as well. To be around him was to recharge your own spirit. He loved to cook, make up songs and to crack a joke, these he would do just to make you smile. He was monumental, larger than life. He would always be on the sideline cheering because Karon was his children’s greatest fan.
Karon was preceded in death by his grandmother Edith. He is survived by his three children, Ka’Ron Mathews, Makayla Vaughters, and Kavon Vaughters; his mother, Velvet Vaughters; father, Gordon Vaughters; and his siblings, Atiya Hopkins and Anthony Vaughters. He will be painfully missed. May the Lord hold our beloved close.
