Karl Schroeder, age 84, died on Monday, April 12, 2021, from renal cell carcinoma. He was born in Detroit, Mich., on Feb. 25, 1937, to Olive and Henry Schroeder and moved to Alaska Territory when just a toddler where his father worked on the gold dredges north of Fairbanks.
Karl was an avid reader, enthusiastic beekeeper and always looked forward to cycling the bike trails with his grandson, Zachary. Karl was an active community member. While living in Fairbanks, he served on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Board of Education for six years, where he successfully campaigned for the elimination of tobacco on the school’s campus and the addition of a school breakfast. He was involved in International Service through his Rotary Club, where he traveled to Nicaragua and Kenya orchestrating the funding and implementation of potable water systems for villagers.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Radene Schroeder; his sons, Mark Schroeder, Dale Schroeder and Erik Schroeder; grandsons, Zachary Schroeder and Cory Schroeder; daughter, Belinda Rivera; and granddaughter, Kylee Phelps.
