Karl F. Osborne , 85

Colonie Karl F. Osborne , 85 ,of Sand Creek Road, died Monday, November 8, 2004 at Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany after a long illness.

Born in Massillon, OH, he was the son of the late Guy Osborne and Mary (Robertson) Osborne and beloved husband for 54 years of Calla M. Dever Osborne.

He had resided in Akron, OH, Charleston, WV and for the past 43 years in Loudonville and attended Akron University.

Karl was a TV announcer and newsman for Channel 13 in Menands from 1959-1983. Previously, he was in radio in Akron for several years and TV Channel 8 in Charleston. He was one of the first inductees into the Radio Hall of Fame in Akron and a member of National Association of Broadcast Engineers and Technicians, representing both Channel 6 and 13. Karl was a member of the Newtonville United Methodist Church.

During World War II, Karl was a paratrooper with the 82nd Infantry Division and the 101st Airborne Signal Corp. He was a POW from D-day until January 31, 1945 when he was liberated by the Russians. He was a member of the former POW’s in Albany and the Disabled American Veteran’s.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and David Oster of Brunswick; loving friend of Brenda and William Powell of Latham and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Harold M. and Robert V. Osborne and a sister, Ruth L. Cook.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Roberta Miller, Community Hospice of Albany County, the Stratton VA Medical Center and all those who gave care and comfort to Karl and the family during his long illness.
