Karen Treakle Taylor, age 76, of Camp Springs and Lusby, MD, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Karen was born in Washington, D.C. on August 31, 1946 to the late William Henry and Jean Wood Treakle. Karen married Larry Taylor on May 21, 1966 and together they built a beautiful life full of family, friends, and many animals. Alongside Larry, Karen ran two successful businesses – LNT Enterprises and Karen’s Pet Grooming. Karen and Larry both created deep ties within the community and their home and businesses became places of belonging for many – both human and animal.
Aside from the businesses and many creatures, Karen also enjoyed tending to a multitude of plants. Her green thumb was unmatched – there was no plant that was ever too far gone and there was always space for one (or two) more on the deck. She took the same approach to ice cream that she did with animals and plants – there was always room for more. In her later years Karen enjoyed sitting in the sun on the deck at her home on St. Leonard Creek, surrounded by her plants while reading the paper or one of the many books that she enjoyed. Throughout her life Karen had an immensely positive impact on many people and she will be truly missed.
Karen was predeceased by her husband, Larry Taylor; her parents, William and Jean Treakle and her sister, Lynn Treakle. Karen is survived by her sister, Janice Treakle; her children, Carrie Raines, Brian Raines, Crista Taylor, Jimmy Crawford and Mark Foreman; grandchildren, Kasey Richards, Brendan Richards, Camden Raines, and Kyle Curran; great-granddaughter, Raelyn Richards; and beloved pups, Hank and Penny.
