Karen M. Schmidt, 52 of Fort Dodge, formerly of West Bend, died Friday March 26 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Karen Marie Schmidt, the daughter of Chuck and Carol (Laubenthal) Schmidt was born September 2, 1957 in Algona, Iowa. She was raised and educated in West Bend where she attended Sts. Peter and Pauls Catholic School and graduated from the West Bend High School in 1975. She then attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, and graduated from Southwest Minnesota State in 1980. She lived and worked in Marshall Minnesota,and Sioux Falls, SD, before moving to Fort Dodge. While in Fort Dodge she worked as an administrative assistant for American Express and at First Federal Savings Bank. Survivors inlcude her parents, Chuck and Carol Schmidt of West Bend, brothers and sisters, Joe ( Sue) Schmidt of Ottosen, IA, Jane (Charlie) DeLaCroix, of Greeley Colorado, Paul(Lori) Schmidt of Ottosen, IA, Lisa Schmidt of Okolona, Mississippi, Brian (Nancy) Schmidt of Fort Dodge, IA, and Bruce Schmidt of Omaha, Nebraska. Karen loved reading, played the organ in church in West Bend, and loved gathering with her family, including nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ernie and Ida Schmidt, and Adam and Mary Laubenthal.
