Karen K. (VanSickle) Gardner, 69, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Greenwood.

Karen was born on April 18, 1946, in Indianapolis to Earl and Violet G. (Kizzee) VanSickle.She graduated from Southport High School, class of 1964. She attended the University of Indianapolis College.

Karen married Earl A. Gardner on Jan. 5, 1967; they were married for 49 years.

She was employed with K Mart as a Merchandiser for 15-plus years, retiring in 1992.

She was an avid Geocacher with her husband Earl. They were known as the “Old Timers” and had over 5000 finds together.

She enjoyed crafts, cooking and baking. Karen loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Earl Gardner of Greenwood, three children, Angie Mishler of Bloomington, William Earl (Michele) Gardner of Brown County and Gigi (Kevin Rice) Gardner of Edinburgh, a brother, Tim (Pat) VanSickle of Beech Grove, six grandchildren, Ashley G. Craft, Holly Gardner, Megan Gardner, Alex Mishler, Tabatha Dunagan and Ella Rice and five great-grandchildren, Blayzek Patterson, Wyllow Craft, Lauryn Craft, Brylee Dunagan and Brynity Dunagan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard “Dick” VanSickle.
