Karen Ann Fawley, age 75, passed away September 7, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Karen was born October 1, 1941 in St. Clair, MI, the daughter of Leslie and June (Clark) English. She received her Bachelor’s degree from WMU, and for 36 years she was an early education teacher with the Portage Public School Systems. Karen had a life long passion for the sport of bowling.
She was elected to the Kalamazoo Area Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1991. Karen won several State and City titles in her illustrious career. She also found time to give back to the sport she loved through her involvement in volunteer roles as coach and director of YBA teams, the Portage Central High School team, the WMU College bowling team and the Special Olympics program in Kalamazoo.
Karen was also avid golfer, however the most important part of her life was her family. On May 11, 1990, she was united in marriage to David Fawley, who survives. Also surviving are her two children Clark (Kim) Brown and Leslie (Dan) Beach; her grandchildren C.J. Brown, Jordan Brown, Kaitlyn Brown, Jessica (Wesley) Pandoff, Cooper Beach, Chandler Beach and Parker Beach; her sister Judy Springborn; and many other special family and friends.
