Karen Suzanne Altenhof Aldrich sadly cashed in her last chips at age 50 on August 14, 2019 after a heroic battle with brain cancer. Born in Fort Ord, Monterey, California on December 27, 1968 to Bruce and Patricia Altenhof. Karen was preceded in death by Patricia L Altenhof although, her memory will live on through her two beautiful daughters Kelsey (26) and Brooke (15) and with the rest of her loving family, including her father Bruce and his wife Sandra, her brother Jeff along with his wife Christy and their children Jared and Krysta, and lastly Karen’s sister Linda, her husband Hoss and their children Evan, Caitlynn and Briana.
Karens’ story is one of courage, love, virtue and adventure. The youngest daughter of an Air Force Lt. Col., she relished exploring different regions of the world, both in the US and abroad. She savored the diversity of the many cultures she got to experience, as she loved blending-in and dancing with everyone she met, making lifelong friendships at each stop along the way. Karen’s magnetic energy always drew people in and her infectious smile, charm and grace captured many hearts throughout all her travels.
Her professional achievements were plentiful, from being a tour guide, travel consultant and glamour shots representative, to managing a military department for a company that allowed her to unleash her passion for helping members of the military by promoting a product that helped to both enhance and protect military pilots’ hearing. Karen always had an immense passion for her work, a passion that was only eclipsed by her devotion to providing the best life experiences possible to her beloved daughters. She was always on the move with a mission to carry out, however even when busy running errands, it was near impossible to be around Karen without bursting out in laughter and simply having a wonderful time just being in her presence.
With such a dynamic personality that was guaranteed to generate fun wherever she went, Karen was a creative thinker, a mentor and above all else a loving friend who was well respected by everyone she knew for her tremendous character.
A wise man once said: “Good character is not given to us; we must build it piece by piece – by thought, choice, courage and determination. Good character is property. It is the noblest of all possessions.”
Though Karen may be gone from this world now, her memory will live on in our spirit and hearts forever.
