  • Date Of Death: April 8, 2023

Karel Shultz, 80, died in her home on April 8, 2023 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Karel loved her family fiercely, loved animals just as fiercely, and made a really mean cheesecake.

Karel was born November 14, 1942, in New York City, to Audray Carolyn Ruppenthal and Karl Clemons Ruppenthal. She lived in many parts of the country while growing up. After marrying her late husband, Robert Stanley Shultz, they moved to North Dakota briefly, a stint which included the birth of their son. After working as a stay-at-home Mom for several years, she restarted her career, eventually working at the North Carolina Museum of Art for more than 20 years. Karel loved to travel, cook, and crack jokes. In retirement, Karel moved to southern Wake County, where she enjoyed playing with her granddaughter, gardening, feeding the local wildlife, and having her family over to swim and eat cheesecake.
