Kaitlin Christina O’Neil, 23, of O’Fallon, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 28, 2019.
Katie was a Special Olympian and a regular fixture at the O’Fallon Family Sports Park, where she took many long walks, no matter the weather. Hers were the first footprints on the track after each snowfall. Katie loved to be in motion. Riding roller coasters, swinging, jumping on the trampoline, and riding her bike with her dad were all favorite activities, but none compared to simply hanging out with her little sister, whom she adored.
Katie completed her studies at O’Fallon Township High School and was a cherished member of her family and community.
Katie is survived by her parents, Tim and Christina O’Neil of O’Fallon, IL; her mother, Susan Krankowski of Shamokin, PA; sister, Elena O’Neil of O’Fallon, IL; and brother, Rusty Landis of Selinsgrove, PA, along with grandparents, Ed and Millie Gates, Betsy Heller, and Anna Krankowski, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is also survived by many therapists, teachers, and caregivers who worked so hard to help her achieve a full, happy, independent life. The world is quieter without Katie’s sweet giggle.
Katie is giving the gift of her brain to research in hopes that she can help find treatments for children and adults with autism. She is also giving her organs to help others live.
