Ka Vang, age 82, passed away on October 19th, 2021 at Saint Anthony North Hospital.
Ka Vang was born in Thalenoy, Xieng Khoung, Laos. Born to Vaam Yig Vaaj and Ntxhais Lauj. She was the youngest of 2 brothers and 3 sisters and is survived by her older brother.
Her life growing up in Laos, was full of hardships. Her dad died before ever getting the chance to meet her and love her like a dad. She was given away at birth by her birth mother and later was given back by the person who initially took her in. She was a daughter but has never felt love like a daughter.
She spent her days tending to the farm alone, raising chickens, pigs and fending for herself up until she got married to Chaiv Vaaj Xyooj in her teenage years. She was fortunate enough to get married to a man who loved her with all his heart. The love they shared proved strong as she became a soldier’s wife. Chaiv Vaaj Xyooj became a soldier fighting in the Vietnam War and during this time, she once again faced hardships and became a working woman fending for not only herself, but now her family. Their love story ended tragically when he refused to flee after the American troops withdrew from Vietnam because he didn’t want to leave his family behind. She also lost her infant son during the war.
With their deaths, Ka had to become 10 times stronger than she already was to flee Laos on her own with her 5 daughters. Even though she was a strong woman, there were times when she needed help in her journey of fleeing a war-torn country. She resorted to asking both Xyooj and Vaaj Clan but received no help because there was no longer a legacy to continue with 5 daughters.
With her determination and willpower, she brought her daughters to Thailand and then to the U.S, settling in St. Paul, Minnesota and later Boulder, Colorado where she spent the rest of her life navigating a new life for her and her family as a single mother. She never re-married and dedicated her life to providing for her children so that they can have a life better than hers. She sacrificed for her daughters working many odd jobs and long hours, waiting for the day that she can be reunited with the love of her life.
Through all her struggles and hardships, she has left a legacy of her own among her daughters and their love will shine brightly for her to finally Rest in Peace with her late husband.
She is survived by her 5 beautiful daughters and their husbands, 4 granddaughters, 11 grandsons, 4 great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
