Justin Lawrence (“Shummy”) Shum, 42, died at UC Health Highlands Ranch Hospital on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. He lost his battle with lung cancer after a three and a half year fight.
He was born February 12, 1979, in Marysville, KS. He went to Marysville High School and graduated Kansas State University in Manhattan. He worked in the medical sales field at Boston Scientific. He started at an entry level position and worked his way up over the 17 years he was with the company.
Survivors include parents Larry and Kathy Shum of Marysville, KS, his sister Karmen Genrich (Jeremy) of Leawood, KS, two nieces Ella and Lily, nephew Kyler Genrich of Leawood, KS, and his beloved dog Bogey.
Justin was preceded in death by grandma Darlene Stitt, aunt Linda Stitt, uncle Steve Shum, and grandparents Elvin and Bess Shum.
Justin had a passion for life and being social with his friends and family. He had a kind heart and was known for his big smile, witty sarcasm, and his ability to make people laugh. He loved K-State, Denver biking, hiking and skiing in the mountains, traveling and golfing. You could usually find him out at restaurants dining with his friends, dressed to the nines. He had two nieces that adored him and his faithful dog Bogey.
