Justin Andrew Capers, born to Thomas and Jean Capers on February 14, 1960, passed away on November 30, 2015 in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Justin Capers was a native to Dallas and even married his loving wife Dixie L. Anderson in Dallas on July 2, 2000. He went to high school at W.T. White High School, but Capers’ education did not stop there. He went on to receive three Bachelor degrees (Texas Christian University- General Studies; University of Texas at Dallas- Molecular Biology and Neuroscience) and his Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. He used his education to work at Penn State Hershey Medical as a Physician Assistant of Neurosurgery. Justin Capers received his NCCPA PA-C in 2005; was active in the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants (PSPA), and he was a former volunteer for the Columbia County Volunteer in Medicine.
Aside from his education and work environment, Justin Capers enjoyed many aspects of life. He was an avid snow skier, an animal rescuer, a member of the Catholic Church, a practical joker, a medical volunteer, a frequent speaker for Alcoholics Anonymous, and a mentor to future physician assistants. Justin loved to share his knowledge of medicine, and he looked for every opportunity to teach great patient care and great medicine, even in his last days in ICU. He prided himself on finding “medical zebras” and improving patients’ outcomes for often missed diagnoses by other providers. Out of his whole life, Justin never had a disappointment-he believed that disappointments were lessons in life that made us who we are as people. As stated before, Justin was a practical joker, and loved to joke around and prank. To those that Justin leaves behind, they can recall some of his common quotes such as, “Don’t let something like skin get in the way of a diagnosis,” “When in doubt, examine the patient,” and “The tortoise always wins.”
Justin Capers leaves behind his wife of fifteen years, Dixie L. Anderson; his brother, Charles Capers, his relatives Parker Capers, Anthony Capers, Matthew Capers, AJ Houston, and August Houston; his many, many friends including the Daly Family, the Nugent Family, Chris Coates, Barney Phillips, Reverend Charles Daniels, and everyone at Penn State Hershey Medical Department of Neurosurgery. Justin Capers also leaves behind his furry, rescued kids Darci, Nez Nez, Busta, and Binky.
