Justena Olive West, 92, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 at Barton Stone Home in Jacksonville.
She was born April 6, 1915, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Manuel L. and Mary Escorse Baptist. She married Charles A. West on April 27, 1946, at the Presbyterian Church in White Hall, and he preceded her in death on October 25, 1996.
She is survived by one sister, Margaret Frances Davis of Jacksonville; two nieces and one nephew, Patricia (husband, Jack) Jackson of Jacksonville, George (wife, Elaine) Davis of Downers Grove and Fran (husband, Ken) Glass of Jacksonville; nine great nieces and nephews; nine great nieces and nephews; eleven great-great nieces and nephews; and three great-great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two nephews, Robert H. Davis and James Andrew Prather; and one brother-in-law, George W. Davis. Mrs. West retired from Hertzberg New Method Book Bindery after twenty-seven years of service.
She was a lifelong member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, serving as a Deacon, Trustee and Elder and was a member of the Willing Workers. She was an avid historian and co-authored a book on the ancestry of her Madeira family, the Baptista Family. She loved being with her family and friends, and enjoyed playing bunco.
