June Hobbs Spann, 100, was called home on Thursday, January 21, 2016 to meet her Savior where she is experiencing a love and joy that we on Earth cannot even begin to imagine. She was born on January 19, 1916 in Macon, Georgia. June graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon and went on to become an X-ray & lab technician at Cochran Field in Warner Robbins, GA where, in 1941, she met and married Dick Spann who worked at the same hospital. After 36 years of many Air Force assignments, they settled in Satellite Beach in 1977 and have resided at the Indian River Colony Club since 1990. Throughout her life, she always had a desire to help those in need. She spent many years as a Red Cross volunteer in hospitals. Even into her late 90’s, she was still baking her famous Sherry cakes and comforting her elderly neighbors in their time of need.
June is survived by her husband, Col USAF (ret) Walter “Dick” Spann; son Walter D. Spann, Jr. and his wife Lisa; granddaughter, Cynthia Maley; and three great grandsons, Christopher, Nicholas and Wesley. Predeceasing June was her daughter, Joan and her two sisters, Marjorie and Marion.
