June Patricia Alexander “Miss June”
May 5, 1960 – September 28, 2022
On September 28, 2022, beloved friend and community member June Patricia Alexander crossed over to the other side.
June was born on May 6, 1960 and grew up in the small town of Camp Hill, Alabama. She studied art at the University of Montevallo and the University of Alabama in both Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. She served her community working in a rural medical clinic, and later as a middle school art teacher. June relocated to Cincinnati in her 40s, making her home in the neighborhood of Over-the-Rhine. Lovingly known by many as “Miss June,” she served unwaveringly as an anchor of community, a wise elder, and a powerful freedom fighter.
Miss June was a woman of countless talents– a highly skilled artist, a brilliant scholar, a student of piano, and a breathtaking writer. She embodied Southern hospitality in her warmth, her openness, and her affectionate way of addressing us all as “baby.” Miss June was profoundly spiritual; she possessed an other-worldly kind of wisdom and intuition. She was a lifelong learner and educator, seeking and freely sharing her wide-ranging knowledge. She was hilarious, irreverent, and truly joyful.
