June Marie Garcia passed away peacefully at home on Saturday August 20, 2022 at the age of 87. She was born in Rexburg, ID on June 5, 1935 to John and Isabel Tafoya. June was the eldest of 10. Surviving June is her sister Jackie and brother Timmy.
June had seven children, Debra (Tony) Scott, Kim (Michelle) Garcia, Rita Garcia, David Garcia, Stephanie Garcia, Dario (Sia Chandler) Garcia and Jonathan Garcia, 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She had a heart full of love for her family as well as her friends. Her generosity could not be measured.
Music was her passion, especially Jazz and Oldies but Goodies. She took every opportunity to sing to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and probably the biggest Utah Jazz fan ever. She always said, “The neighbors probably think I’m being attacked because of my excited screams at the TV.” Whenever possible, Grandma June supported her children and grandchildren at their music and sporting events. SHE LOVED TO CHEER FOR THEM!
June attended Weber State College where she studied to become an X-Ray Technician and was then employed at St. Benedict’s Hospital in Ogden, Utah until the death of her youngest son. She then chose a different career path which led to her retirement from Autoliv in the year 2000. Her work ethic set a great example for her children.
June was preceded in death by her parents, John and Isabel Tafoya, son Jonathan and seven siblings (Tony, Sissy, Bobby, Susie, Tommy, Ricky and Paul).
She was touched by the following poem she read years ago, that she wanted to share with her loved ones.
For Those I love… For Those Who Love Me…
When I am gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had a few years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness,
I thank you for the love you each have shone,
But now it’s time I traveled alone.
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust
It’s only for a while that we must part,
So bless the memories that lie within your heart.
I won’t be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come-
though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near,
And if you listen with your heart you’ll hear
All my love around you soft and clear.
And then when you must come this way alone,
I’ll greet you with a smile and say,
“WELCOME HOME!”
