June J. (Drake) Baughman, age 89, of Lakeside, Michigan, widow of Robert S. Baughman, peacefully left this life on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph. June was born May 2, 1921 to Guy and Linda (Schwandt) Wire in Lakeside, Michigan. She graduated from New Buffalo High School, the valedictorian of her class. June owned her own beauty salon and later worked at Heath Kit in St. Joseph.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son Gorson Guy (Justine) Drake of Watervliet, her daughter, Terry (Jerry) Davis of Rockford, MI; her sister Phyllis Crawford of Sun City Center, FL; her brother Bradley H. (Joan) Wire of Shelbyville, MI; her granddaughters Tracy Weir and Janice Drake and grandsons Curtis Drake and Steven Davis, along with five great-grandchildren. June was preceded in death by her sisters, Georgia Wire and Marguerite Ackerman, her daughter-in-law Melody Drake, and her first husband Gordon Drake.
While June was a lifelong resident of Lakeside, she lived the last eighteen months in the assisted living quarters of Caretel Inns in St. Joseph where she made many friends in the community of caregivers and residents. For all of these people, her family is very thankful. We are also grateful for the many friends who visited and showed their caring while our mother was still able to live at home. One of her last statements was to let her family know that she was happy.
