June Isabel (Brown) Martin, age 76, of Grafton, West Virginia, died on November 16, 2011, while in Hospice Care in Kannapolis, North Carolina, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Grafton, January 20, 1935 to a daughter of the late Leroy O. and Cora “Beatrice” (Pierce) Brown. Her husband, Charles P. Martin preceded her in death in 2009. June is survived by: two daughters, Debra Martin Kendrick and husband Randy of Concord, North Carolina, and Kimberly Empuño of Orlando, Florida; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, six siblings, Fay Kirkpatrick, Peggy Rowand, Rocky Brown, Lee Brown, Bill Brown & Linda Butcher, all of Grafton, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by: one son, Charles R. Martin, and a number of other brothers and sisters. June lived her entire life in this area, either in Grafton, and for a number of years in the Cumberland, Maryland, and the Ridgeley, West Virginia area. She was an avid reader, and had a strong interest in genealogy, and was proud of her West Virginia heritage. June had a passion for decorating, and had spent time as an independent representative for Home Interiors. Her life’s work included tenure at Baby World and the Hazel-Atlas glass manufacturing plants in Grafton. She previously owned and operated a restaurant in downtown Grafton near the Post Office. She went on to become a test car driver for the Hercules Corporation at Rocket Center, West Virginia near Cumberland. She returned to Grafton to retire with her husband.
