June F. Shadid, 93, of Jacksonville, died Thursday February 21, 2008 at the Barton Stone Home in Jacksonville.

She was born May 17, 1914 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Clyde M. and Idabel Biggs Vasconcellos. She married Leroy K. Shadid on March 15, 1931 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1991.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet L. (husband, Bob) Kroush of Jacksonville and Patsy A. (husband, Bob) Twyford of Naples, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Susan Lyn (husband, Eric) Davis of Topeka, Jody (husband, Jim) Treece of Jacksonville, Bobbie (husband, Sam) Houston of Jerome, John Kroush of Chapin, Jilda (husband, David) Evans of Murrayville, Tim (wife, Patty) Twyford of Franklin, Rachel (husband, Tom) Hill of Jacksonville; ten great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and one step-sister, Mari (husband, Cornell) Kane of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Amy Evans; one brother, Clyde “Bud” Vasconcellos; and one sister, Ruth Wright.

Mrs. Shadid and her husband owned and operated S’Squire Gift Shop on the south side of the Jacksonville Plaza. They retired and moved to Arkansas in 1974 and became active in the Methodist Church, where June played the bells. She was well known for her pies and cakes. She returned to Jacksonville in 2000 to be near her family. In 2004, she was one of the first residents of Knollwood Retirement Village, becoming a Knollwood Founders Society Member.
