Former Ridgefielder June A. Camp died at her home on Cape Cod on November 17, 2021, after a year-long battle with cancer. She was 78.
June was born in Floral Park, N.Y. the daughter of James R. and Muriel (Pfieff) Robinson, and moved to Ridgefield as a grade-schooler in the mid-1950s. She graduated from Ridgefield High School in the class of 1960 and later earned a bachelors’ degree from Ramapo College of New Jersey.
June lived in numerous parts of the country with her husband of 61 years, Ridgefield native Charles B. Camp, during his long career in the newspaper business. She started out in Syracuse, NY, in 1960 and from there is was on to Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit, New York City, Houston, Dallas and Lexington, KY. They settled seven years ago in Yarmouth Port, MA.
Along the way, she raised three children, worked briefly in banking, served as a volunteer nursing home ombudsman, and was regularly active in community groups where she lived. She pursued an array of hobbies, including jewelry-making, bridge and mahjong.
In addition to her husband, June is survived by two daughters, Donna A. (John) Cantarella of Rehoboth, MA. and Deborah L. (Bradley) McCaulley of Roswell, GA., one son, William F. (Marjeanne) Camp of Beverly Hills, MI, and six grandchildren: Justin, Brendan and Colin McCaulley and Carly, Marie and Benjamin Camp. Three brothers, James R. Robinson, Jack R. Robinson and Russell Robinson, predeceased her.
