Julio R. Vaz
Norwich-Julio R. Vaz, 89, of Warren St. died Friday, January 11, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born in Fogo, Cape Verde Islands on May 16, 1923 son of the late Augusto and Ilda (Rodrigues) Vaz-DePina. Julio worked most of his life as a mason. He last worked for Stone-Webster Co. at the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant.
On July 8, 1947 he was united in marriage to Eva R. DePina. Mrs. Vaz passed away on February 13, 2009. In addition to his wife and parents, Julio was predeceased by two sons Carlos Vaz and John Vaz.
Mr. Vaz is survived by a son, Sam Vaz of New London, six daughters Dominica Silver of Groton, Nova Edwards of New London, Maria Hay-Vaz of New London, Julia DePina of Norwich, Juana DePina of New Hampshire and Ilda Vaz-Ray of Willimantic, a brother John Silvestre-DePina of Boston, two sisters Domingas Lopes of Boston and Antonia Gomes of Norwich, a companion, Juana Vaz of Norwich, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
