Julie R. Wigton, 83, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sept 30, 2021, with her loving companion of 16 years Donald Miles, their beloved dogs Beau & Max, and family. She was born in Gary, Indiana, on November 2, 1937. Julie graduated high school in Marietta, Ohio, received her undergrad at Ohio State U, and her Masters’s Degree at U of Miami.
Julie had one son, Daniel Forster; two, granddaughters, Tiffany and Jessie; and two great-granddaughters, Sadie Mae and Ruthie Rae.
Julie taught Junior High at Palmetto Junior in South Miami from the ’60s until her retirement in the early ’90s. With a lifetime love and appreciation of birds and animal life, she chose to retire to her beloved community of Lakeport, Florida in the Everglades. Julie had many passions through the course of life – she was an activist for progressive social causes, toured the United States and Europe on a motorcycle, loved cooking, and played keyboard for churches and venues and events around the Okeechobee. For 16 years, Julie was an organist for St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. She donated heavily to many causes. Locally, to The Harry Chapin Food Bank and The Trail of Hope Animal Shelter. She donated time and/or money to the Habitat for Humanity, Martha’s House shelter for abused women, and Doctors Without Borders. Julie’s activism for social improvement moved the needle for better lives in South Florida; she will be forever loved and missed by her family, friends & community.
