Julia Nagy, 88, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, Sept. 13, surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her three daughters, Mary Nagy, Agnes (Carl) Pilarski and Marty (Greg) Weber. Also surviving are her two grandsons, Steven (Kate) Shultz and Austin Shultz. Her brother, Tony (Marilou) Szucs, also survives.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Gabor and Terez Szucs; her husband, Stephen Nagy Jr.; her son, Louis Szucs; her brothers, Imra and Alex Szucs; and her great-granddaughter, Kendall Aria Shultz.

Julia was born in Ercsi, Hungary. After World War II, she became a displaced person. She left Hungary and came to the U.S. with her two brothers and son. She spent a year in New York, then came to Elkhart and married her husband, Stephen.

Julia was an industrious person. She worked all her life up until two years ago. The last decade or so of her life she spent taking care of “older” friends. In the past year, she was helping out in a soup kitchen, Suzanna’s Kitchen.

Julia was always busy. She loved to cook, especially Hungarian dishes, and her specialties were Hungarian desserts. Many friends and family members enjoyed her kiflis and kolach during the holidays. She was frequently crocheting afghans for others and doing many other kinds of needlework projects. When her husband, Stephen, was alive, they enjoyed traveling with various organized travel groups. When Hungarian music was playing, Julia was ready to dance!

Julia loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a kind-hearted and generous person. She will be remembered for her youthful spirit and her never-ending energy.
