Julian “Julie” Duran, a lifelong resident of WP entered eternal rest on April 14, 2016. He was born May 14, 1931, to the late Julio and Mercedes Duran. He graduated from White Plains HS in 1949 and enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served from 1952-1956. His assignment was Class A Engineman, Diesel Engineer, and Interpreter.
He was awarded for his “honorable and faithful service”. On October 4, 1953, he married Gloria Trabakino at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, WP. Together they raised three children. Julian’s early career was in landscape design and later as a carpenter building AMF bowling alleys throughout the United States. He later worked at Bisceglia Corporation retiring as VP of Field Construction. Julian had many talents and interests; gardening, sketching, the art of storytelling, vocal talents as a tenor, and an avid reader with a passion for history.
He enjoyed working out daily and golfing where he achieved 14 hole-in-ones. Julian was a devoted family man; predeceased by his wife Gloria of 47 years and survived by his three children, Julian Keith, Cynthia Kilkelly, and her husband Tim, Stephen, and his wife Wendy. He was the proud grandpa to Chandler, Rachel, and Hailey. Brother to Mercedes Leis and uncle to Frank Lopez, and several nieces and nephews. Julian will be remembered as a gregarious man who spread good cheer wherever he went.
He was spiritual and cared deeply for all people, giving freely of himself. He knew the meaning of hard work and inspired everyone around him to do the same.
